For God
Texti: Helgi Briem
There was joy every evening in Paddy's old inn.
The neighbours were all drunk on fiddles and gin.
Her hair was like fire, her eyes like the sea.
Those green Irish eyes that were laughing at me.
I was under the table all broken and hurt.
Everything covered in blood, beer and dirt.
In my eyes there was smoke, in my ears only mud.
Just one more bomb that was set off for God.
Set off for God, set off for God.
Just one more bomb that was set off for God.
Blown up for God, blown up for God.
The young and the old are all blown up for God.
Around me they lay all silent and pale.
The foam on the floor was blood mixed with ale.
Gone was the life that was fierce as the sea.
And dead were the eyes that were laughing at me.
Set off for God, set off for God,
Just one more bomb that was set off for God.
Dying for god, dying for god.
Now they're all safe and at peace with their god.
